Founded as Heuer AG in 1860 by 20-year-old Edouard Heuer, the young lad opened his watch making shop in St-Imier, Switzerland, producing pocket watches, mostly in silver. Edouard was extraordinarily innovative and inventive, patenting his first chronograph in 1882 before patenting the “oscillating pinion” – both of which are still used by major watchmakers of mechanical chronographs today. Come 1911, Heuer received another patent for the “Time of Trip”, the first dashboard chronograph, designed for use in automobiles and aircraft. A few short years later in 1914, Heuer then introduced its first wrist chronograph, which has since been one of the brand’s flagship selling points.

Heuer AG was later acquired by Techniques d'Avant Garde in 1985, which purchased a majority stake in the company, forming the name TAG Heuer which it has since been known. Over the 150+ years of business, TAG Heuer have become a leader in luxury chronograph watches, as well as high-precision timing innovations developed in pace with the evolution of sports since 1860. In particular its racing-inspired Carrera chronograph which we have here, first launched in 1963 and now in its 10th generation.
